যদি উপরের help কমান্ডে একটি আর্গুমেন্ট প্রদান করা হয়, তবে mysql এটি একটি সার্চ স্ট্রিং হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে MySQL রেফারেন্স ম্যানুয়ালের কন্টেন্ট থেকে সার্ভার-সাইড হেল্প এক্সেস করে। এই কমান্ড সঠিকভাবে কাজ করার জন্য mysql ডাটাবেসের হেল্প টেবিলগুলো হেল্প টপিক ইনফরমেশন দিয়ে ইনিশিয়ালাইজড থাকতে হবে।
যদি সার্চ স্ট্রিংর জন্য কোনো ম্যাচ না থাকে, তবে সার্চ অপারেশন ফেল করে। উদাহরণ:
